"I'm a travel junkie who's hooked on deals from YYC." - Chris Myden

Calgary to Hong Kong | $770 roundtrip including taxes | new record!

Delta has just set a new record for the cheapest flights between Calgary and Hong Kong that I've ever seen. The previous record was set on May 23, 2013 when they dropped to $801.

While Beijing and Shanghai have dropped into the $700s on occasion, this is the first time I've seen Hong Kong break the $800 barrier.

For comparison, here are the current cheapest roundtrip flight prices from Calgary to Hong Kong, by airline, in the month of September....

As you can see, Delta is undercutting the next closest competing airline (China Eastern Air) by over 35% ! A ridiculous gap in the competitive world of airfares.

How to find and book these flights to Hong Kong

These cheap flights are currently showing in Delta's system for the months of September, October, November, and very early December. Incidentally, October and November are often cited as the two best months of the year to visit Hong Kong when the temperatures are at their most comfortable (19C-28C) and plenty of sunshine.

The available date combinations are pretty limited though. Wednesday to Wednesday flights look to be the best bet. They have 1 stop each way, in Seattle.

Here are some example searches on Kayak to get you started. When you get to Kayak, click on the orange 'Select' button which will take you to Delta.com where the flight can be booked. When you get to Delta's site, the verified price will show up as $770 CAD.

August 27 - September 08 (Aug 18 - Sep 08 works as well)
September 03-17
September 10-24
October 01-15
October 15-29
November 05-19
November 12-26
November 19 - December 03

It can be worth experimenting with Wednesday to Saturday dates on Kayak as well. Certain Wednesday to Saturday date combos are showing up for slightly more ($796).

This is not an advertised sale, so it's hard to say how long it will stick around. Typically, with unadvertised price drops on Delta, I find they often disappear very quickly (under 24 hours). But sometimes they do stay around for a few days.

It looks like Flight Network is now showing some flights from Calgary to Hong Kong in September/October/November for even slightly cheaper ($729 CAD roundtrip, including taxes). I've had the most luck finding reasonable flight durations (under 24 hours each way) on Wednesday or Thursday dates (Oct 08 to 22 for example).

    Hi Chris,

You might be looking at the price in $USD. Kayak defaults to $USD. When you click through to Delta.com it should show up in $CAD.

    Thanks Mrs. G !

I just booked mine for less than CAD 500 per person. I had initially booked it for the wrong dates. Called up the airlines to get it changed and realized that if the airlines did it, the fares would go back upto CAD 800 for return. Therefore, just got the airlines to do the free cancellation and rebooked through the Delta website for the dates I wanted. I definitely can't believe the deal I got. CAD 460 return per person to Hong Kong. Beats the $720 per person return deal to Turkey last year! I just checked kayak and looks like the deal is over. Thanks Chris!!!
