New Leaf is expanding to offer flights from Canada to U.S. destinations and one of their first routes is Calgary to the Phoenix-Mesa, Arizona airport.
The Phoenix-Mesa airport (AZA) is about a 40 minute drive from 'central' Phoenix.
For reference, it's about 30 minutes further away than the typical Phoenix (PHX) airport that most people fly into.
New Leaf is offering some cheaper prices on the introductory flights in January 2017. The flights from February to April 2017 are priced quite a bit higher. New Leaf will likely discount these at some point.
Update 11/21 - New Leaf has now dropped their February to April 2017 flights from Calgary to Phoenix-Mesa, Arzona down to $198 CAD roundtrip including taxes.
Update 11/21 @ 3 PM MST - Showing just how determined they are to compete with New Leaf's low cost fares, WestJet has announced that all of a sudden they too will be offering flights from Calgary to Phoenix-Mesa, Arizona (AZA) !

Update 11/21 @ 3 PM MST - Showing just how determined they are to keep competing with New Leaf's low cost fares and try to eliminate them through competition, WestJet has announced that all of a sudden they too will be offering flights from Calgary to Phoenix-Mesa, Arizona (AZA) !
These flights aren't even showing up on WestJet.com yet, but there is a way you can book them already.
1. Go to FlightHub or FlightNetwork
2. Search for a flight from Calgary to Mesa, AZ (AZA)
3. Try dates between January 19 and April 30, 2017.
Departure dates - Try Thursday, Friday, Sunday dates
Return dates - Try Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday dates
Most date combinations are showing up for somewhere between $197 and $314 CAD roundtrip including taxes.
I would think at some point WestJet will drop most dates down closer to $197 roundtrip, like New Leaf has.

Update 11/22 - The Calgary to Phoenix-Mesa (AZA) fares are now showing up on WestJet.com
- With WestJet, you can also book fares that originate in Phoenix-Mesa (such as a one-way from Phoenix-Mesa to Calgary, or roundtrip from Phoenix-Mesa to Calgary). You are not currently able to do this with New Leaf.
Update 11/22 - Some of the January 2017 WestJet flights from Calgary to Phoenix-Mesa, Arizona can currently be booked for $167 CAD roundtrip including taxes
1. Go to FlightHub
2. Change the currency in the top right corner. You need to change it to $USD for this to work.
3. Search for a flight from Calgary to Mesa, AZ (AZA)
Use one of the following date combinations:
DEPARTURE dates
Jan 20
Jan 22
RETURN dates
Jan 26
Jan 27
Jan 29
The price will come up as $122 USD roundtrip. This will work out to $167 CAD when booked with a Canadian credit card at today's exchange rate, and factoring in the typical credit card foreign exchange fees.
With just a few date combinations available, this will likely disappear quickly.

Update 12/18 - The January and February flights from Calgary to Phoenix-Mesa with New Leaf can be booked today for $186 CAD roundtrip including taxes.
1. Go to the New Leaf website
2. Enter the following promo code: SALE 20
3. Search for a flight from Calgary to Phoenix-Mesa, Arizona (AZA) in January or February 2017
Look for the flights that are $97 there, and $86 on the way home.

How about going from Phoenix to Calgary in later February? Is this possible?
It seems like New Leaf does not want to allow people to book flights that originate in Phoenix-Mesa. I'm assuming it's not a technical challenge with their website.
I've had more than a few people ask about that. I'll give them a shout to see what they say!
For those wondering why New Leaf is not offering flights that originate in Phoenix-Mesa, it's because they are new to the scene, and had to offer it as a chartered service first, using a charter license.
By next winter they hope to offer it as a scheduled service, and then you would be able to book flights that originate in Phoenix-Mesa.
I'm very glad to see Calgary-MesaGateway, and even more extatic that WestJet have some competition to their no-more monopoly pricing.
