For the first time in quite a while, there are some flights from Calgary to cities in Australia for under $1000 roundtrip.
The flights are with Qantas, an excellent airline.
You can also turn these into 2-in-1 trips and visit both Australia and San Francisco (or Los Angeles), for under $1000.
You can also look at flying into one Australian city, but home from another, and keeping the price under $1000.

How to find and book this deal
1. Try a Google Flights search like this one...

- click on the departure date box to open up the calendar view and browse for cheap date combinations
- look for the dates that are somewhere between $1050 and $1073 roundtrip.
2. Go to Flighthub
- search for a flight from Calgary (YYC) to...
Sydney (SYD)
or
Brisbane (BNE)
or
Melbourne (MEL)
- use the same dates you found on Google Flights
NOTE: The first search result on Flighthub may not always be the best flights. Check out the different options on the first page of the results.
You may also want to try clicking on '1 stop only' on the left hand side of the Flighthub search results, if it's available.

1. First, try finding a normal roundtrip flight to Australia, using the Google Flights links above.
For example, let's say you found a flight from Calgary (YYC) to Sydney (SYD), from Sep 13 to Sep 27.
2. Now go to Flighthub
- Change the search type to 'Multi City' (not available on the mobile site)
3. Search for a flight like this one:
Calgary (YYC) to Sydney (SYD)
Sydney (SYD) to San Francisco (SFO)
San Francisco (SFO) to Calgary (YYC)
- For the first and last legs of the journey, use the dates from the normal roundtrip flight that you found on Google Flights.
- You can play around with the middle date to give yourself more or less time in Sydney vs San Francisco.

You can also try Los Angeles instead of San Francisco.
