Take a look to see what cheap dates are available. There seems to be cheap date combinations available between June and October 2014, at which point the cheapest direct fares from Calgary to Dallas jump back up dramatically, to over $800 !
Once you've found some cheap dates on Google Flights Explorer, you can either try clicking through from Google to one of their booking partners, or surf directly to WestJet.com or Delta.com to make the booking with the same dates.
Dallas probably isn't anywhere near the top of my dream destination wishlist, but there are certainly fun things to do in Dallas. Taking in a Dallas Cowboys NFL game for example. They also have a really good amusement park and really well reviewed aquarium.
The last time I was in Dallas was during an overnight layover coming back from Central America. I remember commenting that everything in Texas, from housing to alcohol to restaurants, seemed remarkably cheap.
